Crocheted Baby Pinafore

This is a very versatile pattern. It can be made just as I have written down or you can adjust it to fit, change the stitch design, add material...just anything your little heart desires.

Also, the size of crochet hook will determine the size as well as the yarn.

I am using size G hook and 3.5oz worsted weight yarn. So have fun playing with it. The yoke design is the only thing that has to stay basically the same but the rest of it can be changed easily.

So here we go:

A half shell is three double crochets in one hole. A shell is 5 double crochets in the same hole.

Chain 40.
Row 1:

dc in 3rd ch from hook and in the next 4 ch. 3 dc in next ch (corner), dc in next 7 chains, 3 dc in next ch (corner), dc in next 11 chains, 3 dc in next ch (corner), dc in next 7 chains, 3 dc in next chain (corner), dc in next 5 ch, ch 3 and turn.

Row 2:

dc in next 5 dc, 3 dc in next dc (center of corner), dc in next 9 dc, 3 dc in next dc (center of corner), dc in next 13 dc, 3 dc in next dc (center of corner), dc in next 9 dc, 3 dc in next dc (center of corner), dc in next 7 dc, chain 3 and turn.

Row 3:

dc in next 7 dc, 3 dc in next dc (center of corner), dc in next 11 dc, 3 dc in next dc (center of corner), dc in next 15 dc, 3 dc in next dc (center of corner), dc in next 11 dc, 3 dc in next dc (center of corner), dc in next 9 dc, chain 3 and turn.

Row 4:

dc 2 times in bottom of ch 3, (this is a half shell), *skip next dc, dc 5 times in next dc (this is a shell), repeat from * to the last dc, 3 dc (half shell) in last dc, chain 3 and turn.

Row 5:

2 dc in bottom of ch 3,* shell in center of next shell, repeat from * ,3 dc in last stitch, chain 3 turn.

Row 6:

2 dc in bottom of chain 3, shell in top of next 3 shells, skip next 8 shells, shell in next shell, (this creates the arm hole), shell in next 7 shells, skip next 8 shells, shell in top of next shell (arm hole created) and in 2 more shells, half shell in last stitch, chain 3 and turn.

Row 7: 2 dc in bottom of chain 3, shell in top of each shell across to end, half shell in last stitch, chain 3 turn

Row 8:

Repeat Row 7 to desired length.

To Finish:

finish off with a ribbon bow on the front and 2 or 3 buttons on the back. You can also use ribbon ties.

You might even want to finish the edges with a different color. Just slp stitch in the first stitch and ch 1 then sc in each stitch around the edge. You can do this around the bottom, neck and arm holes. Looks really great if you are adding a different color bow.

I don't know where I got this pattern. I have just made it for many years. If you know who the creator is let me know and I will add their name to the pattern.
